The American jazz composer and singer-songwriter originally released her debut studio album in Feberuary 1959, via Bethlehem Records. Recorded at Bethlehem Studio in New York City, “I Loves You, Porgy” gave Simone her first hit later that year, peaking at number 18 on the pop charts, and number 2 on the R&B charts.
